Things People Forget to Do When Moving

There’s a lot to check off the list when moving into a new home. Not only are there big things to check off your list, like deciding on what moving company to hire, but you also have tons of other tasks to finish. And of course, you still have to take care of all of your normal life responsibilities around the same time.

With all that you have to do, it may be easy to forget things when moving. Here are the five most common things people forget to when they move.

Update Your Address

One of the most important steps in moving that often gets forgotten about during the process is changing your address. Changing your address is such an important step and should be prioritized. Here are some areas you may need to change your address: credit cards, band account, job, school, car insurance, veterinarian, subscriptions, family and friends, etc.

Pet Plans

It’s important to have a plan on moving day to make sure your pets can have a smooth transition into your new home. Consider blocking off a room to keep them safe with food, water, bed, litter box, and toys. For dogs, consider planning breaks to take them out for a walk every so often. Once you get to your new home, have another room where you can put your pets while you unpack. Another option is to make plans to keep your pets with a friend or board them while you take care of the moving process.

Plan for Food

Forgetting to plan your meals is very common when you are moving. Since your pantry will be all packed up, it’s important to think about where your meals will come from. Have some prepped meals ready or have some takeout menus set aside so you won’t be hungry on moving day.

Essentials Box

An essentials box is essential when you move into a new home! It’s the best way to make sure you are comfortable during your first few nights there. Consider a pack with paper towels dishware, silverware, toiletries, medications, and a change of clothes to make sure you have everything you need.

Protect Your Place

When moving furniture and heavy boxes, it may cause damage to your home. That’s why it’s essential to protect your home from all of the ins and outs. At City Moving, we use floor runners to keep your floors safe. We also cover at-risk areas like staircases and corners to keep these at-risk spots safe.
